Magaluf's Black Lizard Island
No matter how hard you try, you will most probably stick out as a tourist in Magaluf. But learning the local name of a tourist spot will help you get a friendlier deal. So while the other hapless backpackers call it, Black Lizard Island, you should learn to pronounce “Isla de sa Porrassa” or “Isla de la Porrasa.” The island is so named because it has a severely high number of black lizards, which will surprise you by popping out at the most unexpected moments and from the oddest of places.
The island is located in the bay of Magaluf and is over 400 meteres across at its widest point. With this large but not daunting statistic, the island presents tourists with an exciting challenge. People who fancy themselves as great swimmers, are often seen panting across to reach the lizard-infested island. No prizes await at the end of the line but that does not deter these adventure seeking lads and lassies. Pride, a round of applause and a story to tell your friends back home is the most you can be promised.
The island itself is uninhabited but it is frequented by swimmers and recreational boats from Magaluf. On the island you can go for a hike, start your own trail or chase a scurrying Black Lizard. Let your imagination be your guide.
