Magaluf Excursions: Coves del Drach
A short distance from Magaluf are the Coves del Drach, one of the most majestic natural wonders of the region. Located on Majorca's East coast are these never ending and stunning caves. They span across a distance of just under 2,500 meters and are approximately 25 meters high. Coves de Arta and Coves del Drach are together the most wonderous natural spectacles in the region. But the Coves del Drach have a few advantages over the former.
Other than beautiful natural formations, these caves house one of the largest underground lakes in the world, Lake Martel. A boat ride on these placid and isolated lake is an enchanting experience. But, as you are enjoying the views of the beautiful limestone creations that embelish the caves, you are surprised by the serene sounds of classical music.
A tour through the caves comes with musical performances where gifted artists will recreate classical compositions for you. The natural beauty of the caves is enhanced by the enchanting music and by the special lighting, which is designed to create a tranquil and fantasy-like mood. It does so, very successfully. The experience is very highly recommended for romantic couples. This is truly a soul-stirring experience, which you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the world. Even the gondolas of Venice seem to be lacking in soul after a visit to the Coves del Drach.
To reach the Coves you have many easy options. If you are holidaying in Magaluf, just a short drive will bring you here. Otherwise, the area is well connected by air, boat and road. To fly in, you can access the Palma de Mallorca Airport or drive less than a mile from Porto Cristo. Given their popularity, many hotels offer complementary shuttles or bus services to and fro the caves. If you prefer to take the more scenic route, get onboard one of the countless boats that depart every day from all major tourist hubs of the region.
