Magaluf Excursions: La Granja country house and museum
LA Granja is a historically rich site near the Majorcan Esporles. Just a few miles from Magaluf, this country house is a place that attracts history buffs and nature lovers from far and wide. The history of the property can be traced back to the Moorish era. In those days a house used to be proudly perched here. The house later passed into the hands of Cistercian monks.
Today, it is owned by people who haven’t made any significant and apparent additions to it. The house stands pretty much in its authentic condition, as it seems was their intention. It has the aura of an aging and ancient relic, a symbol of eras gone by. The house’s cracks and flaws seem to convey the story of all the things it must have stood through. If a simple building could have a soul and a spirit, this is surely one of them.
Remnants of its history are all-pervasive at La Granja, as evident in its ancient farming tools, unaltered living rooms, kitchen, chapel and various workshops, which still house many of their original implements.
As you walk through the unique house and experience its history, you come across an extremely calm garden. The garden is behind the house and possesses a beautiful cave, which is almost like a secret that is slowly revealed to you. The cave is cooled by lovely fountains.
At La Granja, couples can escape the frenzy of Magaluf and spend a few romantic moments in peace and solitude. Other than rekindling your love and going through a stirring history lesson, you can also interact with locals and observe folk customs. There’s a vibrant horticultural section which is at its most beautiful in spring. The picturesque location is wonderful to watch sunsets from and call it a day.
