Magaluf Excursions: Soller Train
Soller is popular day tour for many tourists vacationing in Magaluf and Mallorca. To make this journey, the most interesting and memorable mode of traveling is the Soller Train. The historical train began operating in 1912. The quaint train is made mostly of wood and till date, it works using some of its original machinery. The train departs from the centre of Palma, near Magaluf, and takes you on a languid ride through the Mallorcan countryside. The journey covers just under 30 kilometers and the train reaches Soller in less than 1 and a half hours. It makes about ten stops on the way. So, even if your final destination is not Soller you can hop off easily. Once a day, the authorities offer a ride called “the Panoramic.” If you take the train for this ride, and we suggest you should, the train will halt at the Mirador Pujol d'en Banya. The picturesque location affords you wonderful vistas for memorable photographs. But the train stops, here, only for 15 minutes. So, hurry.
Given the time the train takes to reach Soller, some tourists prefer to drive and take advantage of the newly constructed tunnel in the area. But those who can afford the extra 30-40 minutes and value the unique experience, will certainly prefer the train.
The train was originally constructed for the functional purpose of connecting the upcoming town of Soller with the Majorcan capital. In the process, it replaced the inconvenient road, which people earlier used to commute. But the road now has a lot of popular restaurants that serve local delicacies to people who stop while driving by.
A return ticket for the whole ride will cost you just 11 Euros. And as is the case practically everywhere in Magaluf and Majorca, good discounts are available for big groups. But you must apply for it well before a train leaves.
